Bed Skirts Will Help Keep The Dust Bunnies Away and More

Your bedroom is one of the most important rooms in the home. This is where you go for relaxation after a long day. The dust ruffle/bed skirt is a great way to update the look of your bedroom for an enticing good night's sleep. A more practical purpose for the dust ruffle may also be to reduce dust directly beneath the bed, and thus reducing the proximity of dust mites to the bedding itself.

Dust ruffles come in a vast range of colors, fabrics, styles and patterns. Styles can be ruffled, tailored, eyelet, scalloped, custom, Easy On Bed Skirt (no need to remove your mattress to install), wrap around bed skirt / using tidy pins and Egyptian cotton. All styles are for any types of bed from twin to California king size beds. Bed heights vary but see to it that the skirt you choose reaches the floor. So it is time saving to measure the height of your bed before shopping. Easily available and affordable are matched sets that include matching or contrasting sheets, pillowcases and shams, comforters or blankets and, of course, the bed skirt.

Accessories can give your bedroom an entirely new look without having to completely redo the whole room. Another plus of having a bed skirt is to keep the dust bunnies from multiplying under your bed and to hide the storage we all have under our beds! There are just so many items for your bedroom. It is truly a great investment to buy and pamper your beds with these amazing skirts.

Confused When Shopping For Bedding?

When shopping for Bedding there are many pieces to put together to complete the bed ensemble. You will find manufactures use different names for the same product, which can be a bit confusing. I have put together a list explaining what these terms mean. I hope this will help when choosing your bedding.

Bed Skirt (also known as bed ruffle, dust ruffle or valance): A decorative piece used to cover the box spring and the legs of the bed.
Bedspread:  A bed cover that comes to the floor. You do not need a bed skirt with a bedspread.
Boudoir Pillows (also known as breakfast pillows): Small rectangular decorative throw pillows.
Comforter: Is a filled bed cover that is quilted and usually reversible.
Drop: The length of a bed skirt
Duvet: A soft flat bag, traditionally filled with down or feathers, or a combination of both. It is used on a bed as a blanket.
Duvet Cover: A decorative and protective covering for a duvet. Most duvet covers have a button or tie closure at one end.
European Sham (also known as Euro Sham): A decorative pillow covering which fits a large 26" x 26" pillow. These are often placed behind the standard size pillow shams as a backdrop for all of the other pillows.
Flanged: Including a decorative band of fabric that is straight or tailored; often used to describe pillows or pillow shams.
Hotel Bedding: Sheets with a high thread count, to emulate the high quality bedding materials that hotels use. Often in neutral colors. Hotels often use high quality bedding materials to maximize comfort for their customers.
Neckroll: Small cylindrical decorative throw pillows.
Pillow Shams: Decorative coverings for pillows, often designed with trims, ruffles, flanges or cording. Shams are normally placed behind the pillows used to sleep on, which would be covered with regular pillowcases.
Pleated: Sewn in folds like a fan.
Tailored: Fitted closely, i.e. made to fit the bed exactly.
Thread Count: The number of thread ends per square inch in a woven fabric.

Happy Shopping!

Advantages of Memory Foam Pillows

There is nothing worse than waking up with a sore and stiff neck that plagues you all day. Your sleep is disrupted trying to find a comfortable position to support your neck. Substandard pillows can cause headaches, stiff necks, interrupted sleep and other physical conditions. There are many advantages to sleeping on a memory foam pillow. Snoring is decreased because the better alignment of the spine means a better alignment of breathing passages. The pillow completes the alignment of the spine. It reduces stress and pressure on the neck by supporting the neck properly. If you have allergies or other sensitivities, a hypo-allergenic memory foam pillow will help alleviate your symptoms. The pillows are also resistant to dust mites! When purchasing a memory foam pillow you need to choose the density. Most memory foam pillows give you the best support if you sleep on your back, but there are other pillows designed for the side and stomach sleepers. Densities generally range from 3 - 5 lbs. A density in the middle will probably give you the best results. You want a pillow that is too soft, but not too hard either. Memory foam pillows come in a range of sizes and shapes. Prices vary, but memory foam pillows are more expensive than regular pillow.

If you are looking for a great nights sleep, a memory foam pillow might be the way to go!

Duvet Covers

"What is a Duvet Cover?"

The duvet cover is used in Europe as often as Americans use a comforter. A duvet cover is a decorative cover for your comforter. The duvet does the same thing a pillowcase does on a pillow. It protects the comforter from getting worn, old and dirty.

When buying a duvet set always pay close attention to the measurements of both the duvet and the comforter. It is best to purchase the duvet cover with the same measurements of the comforter or 2-3 inches larger than the comforter. Buying a duvet too small for the comforter will make the bedding look very bulky. If the duvet is too big the comforter will shift around like fish in water.

Duvet bedding is so much easier to clean than comforters. You save a lot more money cleaning duvet covers than a comforter set.

I recommend everyone try a duvet cover. I think you will fall in love with it!

Egyptian Cotton

What is Egyptian cotton?

Egyptian cotton bed sheets have been a sign of luxury and pampering for years. In advertising  any of these products made of Egyptian cotton, and you will find claims of softness, luxuriousness, and high quality.

Egyptian cotton comes from where its name suggests – Egypt. The humid conditions and rich soil in Egypt along the Nile River Valley create the perfect conditions to grow long cotton fibers (also known as staples), and Egyptian cotton falls under the classification of an ELS (extra-long staple) cotton. These yarns are soft and lustrous yet are very strong and durable.

Another property of Egyptian cotton that makes it high quality is its ability to absorb liquid. This ability allows it to soak in dyes that give the final product very vibrant color that lasts longer than some other cotton products.

The next thing to look for is thread count. Thread count is simply how many threads of cotton are woven lengthwise and widthwise into an inch of fabric. A good quality thread count of any cotton usually starts at about 200. Since Egyptian cotton is softer and more durable than others, a 200 count sheet set made of Egyptian cotton will be of better quality than a 200 count sheet set made from many other types of cotton. The Egyptian cotton sheets should be softer and more comfortable. They will also most likely be more expensive. As the thread count gets higher the quality of the fabric also rises.

Egyptian cotton is used to make a variety of high quality, durable products. which include comforters, duvet covers, children's bedding as well as sheets and pillowcases. If you are looking to add a little luxury to your cotton products, perhaps Egyptian cotton is the way to go!
